ERI is more than theory – ERI is not just about implementing a series of training sessions for farmer groups as outlined in a manual. It is about changing farmers’ attitudes and behavior towards development so that they can better reach their goals. First and foremost this change starts with intensive discussions and coaching in which ERI facilitators themselves internalize the philosophy behind ERI. Cross-cutting issues such as group strengthening, gender, and environment are paramount for the successful implementation of ERI.

The use of the tools and trainer guides cannot be fully explained by the instructions/guidelines only. Therefore, it is recommended that facilitators learn by practicing and by getting feedback from experienced ERI experts during Training of Trainers (ToT) . ToTs and reflection meetings are regularly carried out by implementing organizations.
