The target groups of ERI are family farmers who are willing to get organised in small groups of 15 to 25 members, and who want to make a (better) business from their farming activities. Although the principles and some of the training sessions are relevant to the more advanced farmers, basically the approach is not meant for farmers who already have successful agri-businesses or have organised themselves in higher-level business-oriented cooperatives. ERI is therefore a grassroot approach that instills social and entrepreneurial attitude, knowledge and skills in people.
Crucial for the success of implementing ERI is the quality and commitment of the trainers. Any program that wants to use ERI is therefore highly recommended to invest in proper recruitment, selection, training and coaching of trainers.
