In early November ERI was invited by PELUM Uganda to participate in a Training of Trainers in the GALS methodology. GALS, which stands for Gender Action Learning Systems is a community-led, participatory empowerment tool that uses drawings to analyse livelihoods with a gender perspective within households, groups, and whole communities.
We visited a community in Arua District to show and explain how they use their Achievement Journey Diagram to reach their individual- and group visions over time. We learned about very impressive stories of change: From overcoming alcoholism to building successful businesses.
We at ERI are always keen to learn about how other programs bring about positive change in their communities. We have found great value in the GALS methodology and are currently working on a way to integrate some aspects into our ERI approach.
